The Magic Number

Here at Modern Wedding, we have the privilege of witnessing dozens of incredible weddings every week. After hearing feedback from our brides around the world and taking logistics into consideration, we would recommend a limit of six bridesmaids. This means that you still have plenty of room in your bridal party to make sure you involve as many of your loved ones as you can, but still allows the day to be manageable. More commonly, bridal parties range from having two to four bridesmaids.

Flying Solo

If you have created a short list for your bridal party and it’s over six or so, then it might be time to consider simplifying things. Choose to have one bridesmaid and create other roles for the remainder of the short list. Invite them to give a speech, recite a meaningful reading, or join you for your wedding dress shopping. If you are still finding the process overwhelming, then don’t be afraid to have no bridal party at all! More and more, we are seeing couples opt for the simple option of no bridal party at all.

Dresses, hair, make up, events and gifts are all things to take into consideration. This is where it’s time to think about your budget and the budget of your potential bridesmaids, and factor this into the decision. Before you make your selection, think about the style, theme and feeling that you are planning for the big day and sculpt your decision around that.

A group chat, shared online calendar and regular communication will keeps thinking with your bridal party running as smoothly as possible. If you find yourself to be quite a disorganised person, think about choosing a smaller bridal party and chat to them about assisting you as well.

Right Or Wrong

Ultimately, the decision of your bridal party is a personal choice. You may come from a large family, have a close group of friends, or simply want to involve as many people as possible. If you are choosing to have a larger bridal party, then make sure you ask them for some assistance and give yourself plenty of time to plan.
